Listening is an important musical and spiritual skill. Musically we need to listen for the melody and work to bring it out above other voices. Also, the beat should always be given attention. That steady continuous pulse must be heard throughout the composition and the ensemble (if an ensemble selection).
Spiritually we should train ourselves to listen to the voice of God. To hear His voice, we have to learn to recognize it by knowing the Scriptures and His truth. In good and bad times, the Holy Spirit helps us to recall God’s word as we listen to His voice.
